Our Philosophy.....
Parents are always welcome to come back with their children! Our only exception is when a very extensive or invasive case requires the use of intravenous sedation with our anesthesiologist, which of course would be discussed in much greater detail if that would ever be necessary for your child. These cases are treated similar as they would be at an out-patient surgery center type facility. Please call and speak with our new patient coordinator that can go into much greater detail and answer any questions regarding our office and your child’s appointment. Our commitment to you: If you feel that our office does not meet your expectations following your child’s initial visit to our office, please let a staff member be aware of your concerns and the visit will be provided to you at no cost. Our Recommendations: “What would I do if this were my own child?” This simple but very important question guides us each and every day with our patients. With over 100 years of combined dental and orthodontic experience, chances are we have seen and treated any type of concern your child may encounter. In a group practice setting, treatment options and outcomes are greatly enhanced. We are able to discuss cases and confer different thoughts and recommendations based on our past experience. We feel it is our duty as your child’s dental provider to discuss all options and their pros and cons, so that you the parent/caregiver are comfortable in the decisions that affect your child’s oral health. Office: Our Nantucket beach style office is over 8000 square feet that is divided into four different areas:
This type of layout allows each doctor to focus on own their types of procedures and age of patients. It’s a little different than other dental office arrangements, but we have found that it works out very well for our patients, parents, staff and doctors. Our patients very rarely have to wait past their scheduled appointment times to be seen. Although we run on “kid time” which is not always very predictable, we take pride in our ability to see our patients on time.
A separate exam and hygiene area allows a patient that may be here for their first time to the dentist, from being seated next to another patient that might be having a more involved procedure being done, which would of course lead to increased apprehension and stress for everyone involved. We offer many different tasty flavors of toothpaste and fluoride, and strive to make the appointment as entertaining as possible for everyone.
Our treatment area chairs have individual television screens overhead along with a big screen mounted in our on-deck area. The chairs are positioned so that instruments and materials used are behind and out of sight of our patients. We are also fortunate to be one of the few pediatric offices in the greater Houston area equipped with a Biolase MD hard and soft tissue laser. This allows us to perform many of our procedures without the need of any local anesthesia! Although rest assured if local anesthesia is needed, we have techniques that help us administer the material usually without the patients ever realizing they just received an injection. For patients with increased levels of apprehension, we are able to offer different sedation options, ranging from nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for those with mild anxiety and less invasive procedures, oral sedatives for those with more involved treatments and apprehension, and anesthesiologist administered intravenous sedation if needed for more invasive procedures and higher levels of anxiety. Based on your child’s medical history and dental needs, our doctors will be able to explain in more detail the various options that will allow your child receive the most comfortable dental treatment possible.
The orthodontic areas are quite similar but it allows us to physically separate the different age groups so they can each feel comfortable in their surroundings. Most nine year olds would feel a little uncomfortable in a treatment room with older teens while most teens wouldn’t be too thrilled to hang out with the “little kids” at the orthodontist.
